Your cover needs to make a good first impression, an impact that inspires your potential reader to pick it up and find out what it's about. Because of this, a striking book cover that intrigues and expresses something of what is inside, can be pivotal to your book's success! I design book covers for both fiction and non-fiction books. From initial creative brainstroming, to refining and perfecting the final design, to providing final print-ready files, I will take you through every stage of the process.
What is book
cover design?
For printed books, formatting is the design of the inside
of your book, page by page.
For fiction, it involves designing the front matter- such as the table of contents, copyright, etc - chapter heading styles, and finally the text itself. The design features and font choices will be relevant to your genre, and expressive of it. In addition, the text will be clean, even, beautifully spaced, and precise.
For non-fiction, book layout design can additionally involve integrating images, illustrations, diagrams, charts, tables, quotes, citations, references and more. For more information on non-fiction formatting, please visit this page.
how does book cover design work?
step 1 - video or email Consultation
You'll send me your manuscript for my review. Depending on what you prefer, we'll consult via a video call or by email. I'll ask you what your ideas and wishes are for the cover, and ask some questions about what you like. I'll collect some visual inspiration. I'll get a feel for our creative direction.
step 2 - cover concepts
This is the brainstorming stage. I will design 3 - 6 cover "concepts", full colour sketches of the
front cover that experiment with images, colours, and typography. I'll send them to you
for your reactions and feedback.

step 3 - choosing a cover concept
We'll bring the favorite concept forward. I then offer unlimited revisions to
the deisgn until we're happy and excited by it.
step 4 - creating the
Final cover design
I'll take our chosen design, create it in high resolution with refined execution, and extend it to include the back cover and spine.
